In April 1907 we had the honour to issue
on behalf of the Imperial Chinese Government, through
the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, a
Loan of £1,500,000 for the construction and equip-
ment of the Canton Kowloon Railway.
A preliminary survey having been made in
1899 under the direction of the eminent Engineers
Sir John Wolfe Barry and Mr. A. J. Barry, and a fur-
ther inspection of the route having been made in
1906, Sir John Wolfe Barry and Mr. A. J. Barry were
able to make a report upon the project which was
published in the Prospectus and from which report it
appeared that the Railway was feasible and could be
completed as a first class line within a period of
3 years at a cost which would be covered by the
available proceeds of the Loan. They further gave
